All Coaching Volunteers undergo a background check. They will also be required to take the concussion training through the CDC and attend a League training prior to the start of season.
What trainings and screening are required of coaches?
*All HEAD and ASSISTANT coaches must pass a background check
*All HEAD coaches and at least One Assistant coach are required to complete USA Football Certification through MMPFL's registration. You will use their link for this training, so it is recorded with the league. You will be notified when the MMPFL link is available.
*All HEAD and ASSISTANT coaches are required to attend one league rules meeting. This is an IN-PERSON training offered at multiple locations before season. Time and location dates will be posted when available from league.
*ALL ASSISTANTS (who do not do the USA Football certification as stated above) - complete a youth sports HEADS-UP concussion training and send a copy of the certificate to GLAYF. These WILL be shared with the league, and you will not be permitted to coach without one on file.
*Again if you are the head coach or the one assistant who completed the USA Football Certification you do not need to do Heads Up training as it is included in the USA Football Certification.
You can learn more about this at the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services webpage on Michigan Sports Concussion Law.
Assistant coaches can be selected by a head coach but must be board approved.
